Motivation

Two major themes stood out from the material this week. The first is that perusing the pursuit of an entrepreneurial life should not have at its core the desire to make money. It was suggested that if money it the motivation of an entrepreneur he may achieve wealth but still end up lacking something in his or her life. Being an entrepreneur should be more about wanting to bring change and personal fulfillment than money. Money will come as the entrepreneur lives a life of meaning. This is a concept I am still wrestling with. I may not have found the right thing yet because if I think of leaving my current job I would like to do so with the prospect of being able to provide more opportunities for my family. Opportunities like the best education that I am not able to afford with my current employment.

The second concept was that we should become an expert at a few things. The sacrifice and commitment needed to become an expert is referred to as a Hero’s journey. This journey does not contain any shortcuts or downhills. Skills needed to become an expert is learned one step at a time and there may be extended period of time were there is no apparent improvement. While on this plateau relentless comment is required to reach the next period of growth. This made me think of my progress and how I am doing at becoming an expert because of my commitment to stay the course.
